I just moved into my new workshop space in Duluth and I look forward to sharing photos on my facebook and blog as soon as it looks presentable :) I will always keep my studio in Northeast Minneapolis at the Northrup King Building for a show space and meeting place with clients, but I now have a new workshop in my hometown of Duluth, MN. Next time you are visiting the big Lake make sure to come visit the workshop! Duluth has been a wonderful source of inspiration for me and I look forward to sharing my new collections with you!

It's American Craft Week so get out and celebrate! American Craft Week October 7th-16th "brings together individuals, small businesses and organizations from all fifty states in recognition of the countless ways handmade objects enrich our daily lives and contribute to our national aesthetic and economy". There are plenty of events hosted by local galleries and tonight join me and fellow jewelry artist, Emily Johnson, at the Grand Hand Gallery in St. Paul for an artist talk. From 5-7pm tonight Emily and I will share photos for an off sight demo and talk about our processes and inspirations. Not to mention all the extra jewels we will have for tonight's event only!

The Park Point Art Fair is coming up and the sun is scheduled to make an appearance just for the special event! This is a fun art fair in the best setting-- the largest lake in the world! Park Point is a beautiful park where you can take advantage of the beautiful lake, skyline of Duluth, and this weekend amazing artwork by local and regional artists. The largest Art Crawl in the nation is coming up! You know what that means: long days, even longer nights, dirty hands, silver dust everywhere, and of course... new jewels! I have been working hard to create new pieces for this great event. I will only be at Art-A-Whirl Friday, May 20th from 5-9pm, but my collection will be on display the whole weekend for your pleasure. Make a Wish experience

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure to meet Peyton. Peyton is an 11 year old girl who loves baseball (wants to be the first female pitcher in the MLB), loves working with her hands, and is fighting Ewings Sarcoma. I met Peyton through Make a Wish Foundation of Minnesota whose mission is "to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy for children battling life threatening medical conditions". This year at the MAW Wish Ball they will have a live auction selling the works of local artists whose donated piece is helped designed or created by a Make A Wish child. Me and Peyton were paired together for our love of gemstones. For Peyton's wish she decided to go to Australia to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and to mine for gemstones in Australia's rich opal mines and she leaves this week. How cool is that?! Peyton and her mother met me at my studio in NE Minneapolis where we talked shop, took some aggression out on metal, and of course looked at beautiful, sparkly things. Peyton was a natural at goldsmithing and even soldered her first piece! She liked hammering the metal best. Together we made a pair of my sterling silver "Bell" earrings with rhodolite garnet briolette gems. The earrings were donated to Make a Wish and will be auctioned off at the Wish Ball as Wish Art May 21st at the St. Paul RiverCenter to raise money for the foundation. It was such an amazing experience and so fun to share my passion with Peyton and watch her thrive.

American Craft Council

Thanks to all who stopped by the ACC show this past weekend in St. Paul. The show was a great success and I am so proud to have been a part of this nationally recognized show. I met some other amazingly talented artists and got to share my whole collection with everyone. It is not very often when the whole gang gets together, so it was a grand reunion! I shared a booth with my talented friend, Emily Johnson so there was plenty of jewels to be had. There were lots of "oohhs" and "ahhhs" and of course lots of smiles. Me and my studio-mate Emily Johnson will share a booth at this amazing fine craft event. Wedding Bells are ringing

As spring approaches, so do more weddings, proposals, and declarations of love. Something about the sun not only warms our faces but our hearts too!
Check out this custom designed wedding ring set for Liz and Doug. Liz fell in love with a 7mm wide sterling silver band with .20ct champagne rose-cut diamond set in 18k yellow gold and with one single 22k gold granule. She created her own combination by matching it with a hammered 22k gold band (my favvvorite metal ever) and a very very thin 14k gray gold band. The color play and warmth of the gold radiate from her hand. Doug decided to go with a hammered palladium 950 ring that has a rustic feel. He works with his hands and will only add character to the band over time. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

New Year brings Big News!

2011 brings big changes for me and my business. This December I left my full-time day job as goldsmith and studio director for Stephen Vincent Design to purse my jewelry collection full time! I am so excited for this opportunity to have more creative time and expand my business to more galleries and shows throughout the year. I also hope to grow my custom design business and create more wedding and commitment rings, so look for new things to come!

With this business change I also have personal change: my husband and I are moving up to Duluth, Minnesota. Duluth is my hometown and a great source of my inspiration, so I am excited to be surrounded by the tress, rivers, and that big huge Lake Superior and I look forward to how it will influence my collection. Although I am excited about the move, I am not ready to give up my community in NE Minneapolis. The Twin Cities has been an amazing community to be a part of creatively and business wise. I have made so many connections and have such an amazing supportive climate down here, I just can't give it up. So, I'm not! I am keeping my studio in the Northrup King Building as a show space and meeting area for custom design. I plan to travel back and forth from Duluth and the Cities at least twice a month. Now that my schedule is my own I plan to keep a foot in both cities (Duluth and Minneapolis) so no worries, I still look forward to our private design consultations and First Thursday events!

My jewels are famous! Well....kind of. Minnesota Public Television created a new series, MN Original, to highlight local, working Minnesotan artists and film them in their habitat. Me and my studio mates Emily Johnson, Betty Jager, and Rita Van Allen were honored to be filmed for this great program. Art-A-Whirl!

Art-A-Whirl is here again! Every spring the Arts District in Northeast Minneapolis comes alive with the largest art crawl and gallery tour in the nation. Every artist building, studio, and gallery in the area opens their doors to an enthusiastic crowd. Thousands of people come to check out the local art scene and view new collections and artists' working spaces. Hundreds of artists from fibers, clay, paint, video, and of course jewelry will display their work for show and sale.

Stop by our studio in the Northrup King Building studio 435 to check out my new collection focused on asymmetrical elements and weights and balances. My studio mates Emily Johnson, Betty Jager, Rita VanAllen, and Susan Frerichs are eager to show you their new work as well. We will also host local coffee roasters Megan and Shawn Person of Public Coffee House who will hand out hot cups of coffee to keep you alert as you take in all the local art.

The snow is all gone, the birds are chirping, the grass is green... could it be... spring?! Along with the longer, warmer days spring also brings art show season. This year I will participate in three amazing shows: the Walker Art Mart, Art-A-Whirl, and close the summer with the Uptown Art Fair. I am ecstatic to join the ranks at these prestigious events and am working hard to bring a fresh new collection to show. Here's another sneak peek to jewels: layered blackened sterling silver chain with lustrous pearl accents. It is so delicate but still has a great toughness to it as well.

Check out the new pieces focused on asymmetrical elements and gemstone accents. The above earrings are part of the "Tree Ring" collection with the outlines mimicking the year rings of a tree. The below necklaces are the starting points to a new collection. I love the contradiction of the white, lustrous pearl mixed with the bold, black silver.

Art Attack is an annual open studio and gallery crawl at the Northrup King Building, in the heart of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. The weekend-long event features over 200 artists working in painting and drawing, sculpture, photography, architecture, custom furniture, fiber arts, metal, ceramics, glass, hand-crafted and custom jewelry, mixed media, mosaics, textiles, and more.

Art Attack is an exciting opportunity to gain admission to private studios and to buy original art direct from local, nationally and internationally known artists. Many artists are hosting special events, you can find the listings on the Northrup King website.

Custom Design

I had the privilege to create a pair of custom designed wedding rings for a couple in search of new rings to symbolize their commitment. They stumbled upon me at a First Thursday at the Northrup King and found a ring they both were drawn to for different reasons. I love to name my designs because they each have their own story, but I usually try to name them ambiguous enough so each person can interpret the design to their own experiences and not just fall into my interpretation- but I have not settled on a name for this design. I have called this reticulated sterling silver and fine silver granulation design "Nature's Crown", "Seedlings", "Wave" and the list goes on. This ring fit the couple so perfect for different reasons: He is a landscape artist and the swells and valleys of the silver reminded him of landscapes while she is a student studying agriculture and she preferred the seedling interpretation of the granulation. We oxidized the finished product to give them a very rustic, earthy feel. They seem as though they were just pulled from an archaeological dig. I was very excited about these rings and the meaning they both had for the couple. I hope they enjoy them for years to come.

It has been a very busy summer/ fall that has kept me at my bench and off the computer but alas, I have found some time for the world wide web. The first big event this season was the WJA Designer Showcase in September held at Stephen Vincent's loft in the Warehouse District. This is an exclusive event where local and regional artists showcase their designs for local and regional gallery and boutique owners. Here you can find a wide variety of talent and technique all within your local area. This event encourages owners and retailers to shop local and discover new and rising talent. It was a great atmosphere to show off my new collection. I was honored to win third place in the "People's Choice Award" amongst the other talented designers. Here are some photos of the event!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Park Point Art Fair. It was a great success despite the weather! It was a great weekend to get out and partake in the local art scene. There was a great attendance accompanied with fickle weather (as always expected in Duluth... if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes!) Check out photos from the weekend!
My new favorite piece! It's oxidized sterling sliver and 24 karat gold leaf with an 18 karat gold bezel set champagne rose cut diamond. The oval length chain is adjustable to a 22 inch or 18 inch length. This piece took me forever to create... but it was definitely worth the time!

Well summer is finally here and it is already going so fast! This coming weekend is the Park Point Art Fair in beautiful Duluth, Minnesota on the shores of Lake Superior. Art-A-Whirl is the biggest, baddest art crawl event of the year in Minneapolis. Every year more than 15,000 people come out to NorthEast Minneapolis to see the local talent of over 500 artists displayed throughout the Art's District. Come check out new collections of paintings, ceramics, fibers, glass, and of course.. jewelry!

Me and my three fabulous studio mates will be showing in our new home at the Northrup King Building. If you only hit up one Arts Building during the art crawl make this one it! Northrup has the largest selection of artists and mediums (and not to mention our studio!). Come by and check out my new collection for spring: The Garden.

This coming Thursday will be my first First Thursday at the Northrup King Building. Every first Thursday of the month all the art buildings in Northeast Minneapolis open their doors for open studios. I have moved my studio to the Northrup King Building in the Arts District of Northeast Minneapolis. The Northrup King Building is home to over 400 artists with many galleries, shops and restaurants nearby. Me and my three studio mates are excited for the larger space and new exposure the NKB will bring. Every First Thursday of the month the whole building opens their doors for an open studio tour where you can meet and chat with the artists and hopefully find something you love! Rings as Personal Statement

Rings are always one of my favorite pieces of jewelry to design and to wear. They are a very personal piece of jewelry as many times they have symbolic meaning: wedding rings, class rings, mother's rings. Rings are special because they are enjoyed not only by the spectator, but the wearer themselves.

I love to work in ancient techniques and antique gems. There is a close relationship the piece of jewelry and the handmade process. I choose to work in granulation which was a symbol of the Etruscan culture, and rose cut gems which were one of the first styles of polished gemstones in history. Here are some designs that blend these styles and techniques to create a story for each piece and its wearer.

Gallery 360 along with local designer Kimberly Jurek will transform the gallery into a red carpet catwalk to unveil this springs newest collections by local and regional clothing designers. So often when I start a piece of work, I have a sketch of my idea and I have thought about execution even before I begin the initial saw-blade cut or hammer mark. But as a I begin the process of the design the metal usually has its own intentions. I never create a piece exactly like the original sketch because as it evolves it becomes something of its own and helps direct me to the final design.
